Overview

• Rural hospital setting
• 12-hour night shifts
• 36-hour weekly guarantee

Unit Details

• Med/Surg unit
• 32 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIHSS

Clinical Responsibilities / Unit Expectations

• RN titration of drips is required
• Common drip types include analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit; RNs do not read their own strips
• Charge nurse takes an assignment
• Nurse aide ratio: 1:5
• Common patient types include CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure

Scheduling / Assignment Details

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
• Full- and part-time staff are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage is required
• Call or standby is determined by the nurse manager
• Floating is determined by the nurse manager and department needs; in an extreme need, may float within Zone 4
• First to float
• Night shift orientation details are assigned during the week of orientation
• Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation, even if first-day modules are remote

• Radius limit: 60 miles
• Driver’s license must be submitted
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• RT equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and vents
