Cath Lab RN - California (Travel Contract)

Job Overview

  • Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology (IR)
  • Location: Glendale, California
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (10-hour shifts)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours
  • Call Requirements:
    • Evening call 1-2 times per week starting after shift (~5 PM)
    • Weekend call 1-2 weekends per month (24-hour coverage, 6:30 AM to 6:30 AM)
    • Holiday call: 1 major and 1 minor holiday
    • Call response time: 30 minutes
  • Orientation: Up to 2 weeks with another RN; no call duties until third week

Unit Details

  • Department: Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology
  • Number of suites/labs: 3
  • Average cases per day: 8-10
  • Team: 3-person team including Cath Lab and IR Techs, RN responsible for procedural sedation and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Hemodynamic monitoring performed partly in control room (visible to procedure room, requires floating between rooms)
  • EMR system: Cerner

Patient Population and Procedures

  • Mixed lab environment with both Cath Lab and IR procedures
  • Common procedures include:
    • Left and right heart catheterizations (diagnostic and interventional)
    • Electrophysiology (EP) studies
    • Pacemaker and defibrillator management
    • IR procedures such as PICC line placement, central lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, pleurovacs, stroke interventions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Interventional Radiology nursing experience
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Job Responsibilities

  • Procedure setup and circulation during procedures
  • Administer sedation and monitor patients throughout procedures
  • Responsible for hemodynamic monitoring during cases
  • Collaborate with cardiologists and interventionalists who are on 24-hour call

  • Dress code: Scrubs provided
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling with flexibility; call team covers after shift if needed
  • No floating outside of the Cath Lab/IR unit required beyond control room duties
  • Candidate should be comfortable with the unique workflow involving monitoring from the control room and moving between rooms during procedures
