Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room.
Focus on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
Assist in maintaining a financially stable unit and promote professional development with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
Supervise licensed and non-licensed staff members.
Apply the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
Provide patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
Mentor and precept staff.

Job Responsibilities

Perform assessments and reassessments according to policy or patient condition.
Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Clinical experience in orthopedics, trauma, spine, ENT surgery, and general surgery cases.

Shift Details

Day shift: 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM (10-hour shifts).
Work includes Fridays.
Call every 5th weekend from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
Total hours per week: 40.

Additional Notes

The RN is expected to function as a mentor/preceptor and participate actively in practice governance and quality improvement efforts.
