Job Description
This position focuses on caring for cardiac surgery patients post-operatively, including those recovering from CABG, valve surgery, heart transplant, and lung surgeries such as wedge resection, lobectomy, or double lung transplant. Additional patient populations include esophagectomies, bronchial valves, EP lab, Cath lab, and general cardiology patients. The unit is teamwork-oriented.
Required Qualifications
Licensure
- Valid, permanent RN license in Ohio (temporary licenses not accepted)
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start and updated upon expiration
- License must be renewed every 2 years with verification
Certifications
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS
Experience
- Specialty: RN Step Down

Health and Immunizations

- 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) within last 6 months; if positive, clear chest x-ray and current TB questionnaire required
- Fit test for N95 respirators completed within 1 year (specific mask models listed)
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming ability to work without restrictions
Background and Compliance
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including social security trace, county searches, national sex offender registry
- Ohio fingerprinting and FBI background checks as applicable (depending on length of Ohio residency)
- OIG exclusion check within 6 months prior to start
- SAM/EPLS/GSA/OFAC screening within 6 months prior to start
- Drug screen within 60 days prior to start (10-panel, lab report required; instant screens not accepted)
- Education verification through third party (international equivalency if applicable)
- Employment verification for last 5 years through third party
- Skills checklist completed within 1 year prior to start (clinical skills specific)
- Competency exam with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start
- Core competencies exam with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start (includes HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission topics)
- Completion of required safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance (annual renewal)
