Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/MS Unit
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a combined Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) unit with floating between the two.
- Emphasis on neuro patients with occasional overflow patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity.
- Must be trained on Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) for monitoring and interviewing epilepsy patients.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system required.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification.
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, ENPC, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI).
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for PCU/Stepdown and other critical care units.
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency tests required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card (can be completed onsite).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience working in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Training on Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) for monitoring and interviewing epilepsy patients.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent PCU experience.
- Prior travel experience: Not required.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete all required competency exams and skills checklists annually.
- Must pass facility-specific EKG exam with a minimum score of 80%.
- Two supervisor references required, verified within 6 months of start.
- Employment history verification for the past 7 years required.
- Must comply with facility-specific policies including confidentiality, acceptable use, and electronic communications.
Notes
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted for this assignment.
- Renewal plans must be in place for any certifications or licenses expiring during the contract.
- Candidates must be prepared to float between PCU and MS units as needed.
