Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: Main 6 Orthopedics / Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Patient Diagnoses: Orthopedics including primary total joint (hip and knee) replacement, revision of total joint replacement, spine surgery, ankle replacement, total shoulder replacement
  • Unit Details: Busy surgical orthopedic unit with patient length of stay ranging from 1-5 days. Patients often have complex medical diagnoses alongside surgical needs.
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
  • Call Requirement: Yes, shared with unit staff
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (50% of weekends)
  • Float Requirement: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Medication System: Pyxis
  • Communication: SBAR method used
  • Multidisciplinary rounds held daily Monday through Friday with nursing staff, charge nurse, NP/PA, and case manager

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • 1.5 to 2 years or more of total acute care travel nursing experience
  • Acute Care nursing experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Additional Information

  • Scrubs: Any color without hospital logos; scrubs not provided
  • Orientation and facility-specific modules required prior to start
  • Must complete facility-required documentation and attestations (I9, E-Verify, background check attestations, drug screen attestations, etc.)
  • Annual safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced orthopedic and medical-surgical environment with a supportive multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates are experienced RNs with acute care and travel nursing backgrounds who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts.
