Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (MedSurg)
• Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), options for 3 or 4 twelve-hour shifts per week
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-Call: Yes, as needed for low census
• Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including between like units

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Experience with Rapid Response teams
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

• Travel radius: Within 60 miles
• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
• Hurricane Season: Assignments during June-November may include emergency response duties

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid government-issued ID
• Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment verifications
• Education verification or diploma/transcripts preferred
• Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
• Respirator clearance annually for patient-facing roles
• Photo for badge (passport-style, frontal view)
• Signed facility-specific documents including code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, and job description acknowledgment

Orientation and Training

• Completion of online modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
• Facility-specific first day instructions provided after clearance
• COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

References and Work History

• Two clinical references required
• Performance evaluation within 12 months of start
• Verification of last three clinical employers (exceptions apply)

This position offers an opportunity to work in a well-staffed medical surgical unit with supportive staffing ratios and a robust electronic health record system. Night shift flexibility and willingness to float are essential. Compliance with all licensing, certification, and health requirements is mandatory prior to assignment start.
