Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Shift: Nights (1800-0630), 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Pediatric unit with 11 rooms and 16 beds
- Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma center
- Charting system: Cerner
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric RN experience required
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Experience in Pediatric MedSurg and Pediatric Step Down/Telemetry required
- Pediatric-specific clinical skills:
- Endocrine/Metabolic: Hyperbilirubinemia, Insulin administration
- Gastrointestinal: Breastfeeding support, handling breast milk, feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), oral/nasogastric tube placement
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Peripheral line care/management, starting and maintaining IVs
- Medications: Pediatric dosage calculations
- Respiratory: Oral/nasal suctioning, oxygen delivery systems
- Professional skills: Infection prevention, isolation precautions, wound assessment/care
- EMR experience required
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts per week
- Will work every other weekend
- No on-call required
- Floating within scope as needed
- Open to block schedule requests (discuss with manager)
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- Ideally no more than 5 days return-to-office (RTO) restrictions
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or active application with ETA required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start
- Primary source verification of state license and certifications
- Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate provider, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted), not completed onsite
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Required immunizations or documentation:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- References: 2 professional references required for all direct travel clinical candidates
- Skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
- Badge photo required within one week of signing contract
- Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment and facility-specific modules before orientation
- Parking permit required (no cost)

- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Facility accommodates latex allergies
- Guaranteed hours policy allows client to cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
- Candidate may be floated as needed within scope of practice
Summary
This is a night-shift Pediatric RN travel contract position in Illinois requiring a minimum of 2 years pediatric nursing experience, active Illinois RN licensure, and certifications in BLS and PALS. The role involves working in a pediatric acute care setting with a variety of pediatric clinical skills, including med-surg, telemetry, endocrine, GI, IV therapy, respiratory care, and infection control. Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Med Surg experience, including experience within the last year
- Pediatric nursing experience
- Telemetry experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
