Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Shift: Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 5:15 PM)
Rooms: 23 operating rooms
Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
On-Call: Yes, approximately 1 time per week (may be less frequent)
Floating: Rarely, only within skill set to meet facility needs
Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility

Required Experience & Skills

Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience
First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
Experience with Cerner electronic charting preferred
Must have experience with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV)
Required case experience includes:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
Emergency management skills including code response, fire safety, latex allergy management, and malignant hyperthermia
Equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
Professional knowledge: Administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, urinary bladder catheterization

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Trauma experience

Acute Care Hospital with 562 staffed beds
Level I Trauma Center
Magnet designated hospital
Charting system: Cerner
Scrub color provided
Parking permit required, no cost

Additional Notes

All requested time off must be approved by manager
Up to 36 hours of call-off allowed per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
Mandatory completion of computer-based learning modules before orientation
Candidates must comply with Illinois-specific background and registry checks, including fingerprinting within Illinois
