Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
Holiday Rotation: Must work one summer and one winter holiday; if multiple holidays fall during assignment, expect to work proportionally (e.g., if two holidays, work one; if three, work two)
Staffing Flexibility: Position requires floating to cover staffing needs
Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
Self-scheduling: Staff assigned to groups that rotate weekly for scheduling

Unit Description

Medical Innovation Unit: 32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practices
Early adoption of new equipment and nursing models
Use of Hercules beds on the unit

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, counties and states lived/worked in last 7 years, nationwide sex offender check)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
Professional References: 2 required

Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for specialty
Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, renewed annually
Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (includes marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
Immunizations and Health Requirements:
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, with annual TB questionnaire
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); medical and religious exemptions allowed with facility-specific forms submitted two weeks prior to start
Fit Mask Testing: Annual fit test required (3M N95 preferred); option to complete onsite after orientation
Facility-specific documents: Must review, sign, and/or acknowledge multiple policies including standards of appearance, social media, confidentiality, compliance, dress code, masking, parking, and others prior to start

Additional Notes

On the first day, RN will take drug screening at Employee Health and then leave; first shift begins the following day
No pending license acceptance
Prior travel experience is not required
Must comply with Return to Office (RTO) holiday work policy as outlined

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of medical-surgical experience who is comfortable working night shifts, floating as needed, and participating in holiday rotations. Candidates must be prepared to complete comprehensive onboarding and compliance documentation prior to starting.
