Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Room)

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
  • Shift: Nights, Every Other Week (EOW)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: 3-5 years Level I Trauma ER experience as T1 required
  • Must be able to function independently taking care of Level 1 trauma patients in Trauma Bay.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Florida or Compact RN license.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) via AHA or ARC.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) via AHA or ARC.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required.
  • Must have Cerner and Epic electronic health record system experience.

Education Requirements

  • Degree must be from an accredited school or an institution approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.
  • Alternatively, a degree from a non-accredited institution plus 2 years of recent acute care experience (consecutive within the past 24 months in a US hospital) is acceptable.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide care in a Level I Trauma Emergency Room setting.
  • Manage trauma patients independently in the Trauma Bay.
  • Work night shifts on an every-other-week schedule.

Required Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all nursing professions except Case Managers).
  • Annual Skills Checklist.

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months of start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
  • Fingerprinting: Florida AHCA Level II fingerprinting required prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start, signed by DO, MD, NP, APRN, or PA.
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON lab only) within 6 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
  • Annual fit mask test (3M 1860 Regular or Small masks only).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B – Series, titer, or signed declination.
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • COVID vaccination preferred (for 2025-2026 season).

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references from within the last 2 years (state mandated for all candidates with direct patient contact).
  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Passport-style badge photo required.
  • Compliance with Broward Health privacy policies and affidavits.
  • Must complete all required documentation and background checks prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with Level I trauma experience who are comfortable working nights and managing critical trauma patients independently. Candidates must meet strict licensure, certification, and health requirements and complete extensive facility-specific training modules.
