Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Washington, DC

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Location: Washington, District of Columbia
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, rotating days/nights (0700-1930 & 1900-0730)
  • Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend required; holidays as needed
  • Float Requirements: Must float to ICU and Intermediate Care (IMC)

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Certifications & Exams

  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support, AHA or ARC)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
      • Minimum overall score of 80%
      • 100% score on lethal rhythms section
    • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (score 80%+ within 3 years)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (updated annually, with remediation if needed)

Licensure & Documentation

  • Valid state nursing license required prior to start
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps
  • Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, and education verification required
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (updated annually)
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
    • Documentation of MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B status
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific modules (SITELS) prior to start date
  • Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
  • Photo for badge with specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)

Work Environment

  • Critical care setting in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Float to ICU and Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) as needed
  • Rotating day and night shifts

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses who meet the certification and competency requirements and are comfortable with rotating shifts and floating within critical care units. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
