Medical Surgical Nurse

Overview

• Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 3x12 hours
• Weekly hours: 36 or 48 hours accepted
• Target ratio: 1:5–6
• Orientation: 24 hours, plus hospital orientation during week one
• Scheduling: Based on unit needs
• Floating: Required
• Weekend requirement: 12–16 per contract

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• Med-surg/telemetry experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management
• Experience with EPIC

Unit Details

• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture
• Unit includes isolation care for COVID patients
• Stepdown patients are managed by stepdown staff, not med-surg staff

Key Clinical Skills

• Rapid response support
• IV insulin protocols
• Blood product administration
• Central line blood draws and PICC management
• Starting IVs
• Heparin and PCA management
• Chest tubes
• CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow nasal cannula
• Oral suctioning and oxygen delivery devices
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care and wound vac management

Work Expectations

• May be assigned to storm, hurricane, mass casualty, or disaster response coverage
• May be consolidated to a centralized office mid-contract and reassigned as needed

Additional Notes

• RTO after booking is not allowed
• Navy/white scrubs required
