Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown (Nights)

Job Description

• Provide professional and clinical nursing care as part of an interdisciplinary team in a Progressive Care/Stepdown unit.
• May be required to float within the same discipline across local campuses.
• Patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4-5
  • Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6 (assignments consider cardiac experience for safety)
• Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC.
• Orientation dates available regularly throughout the year.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license at time of submission.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Stepdown/Progressive Care experience, including cardiac Stepdown experience.
• Must have EPIC EMR experience.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC.
• Work history/resume must document at least 24 months of Stepdown/Progressive Care experience.
• Skills checklist specific to Stepdown/Progressive Care discipline required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Professional references or performance evaluations from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or equivalent within the last 24 months are preferred.

• Billable overtime begins after 40 hours per week.

Summary

This is a temporary night shift RN position in a Progressive Care/Stepdown unit requiring strong cardiac Stepdown experience, EPIC proficiency, and current Illinois RN licensure. The role involves patient care with a focus on cardiac patients, working 12-hour shifts with a 1:5 or 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio at night. Prior travel experience is not required.
