Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract

Location: Lincoln, Illinois
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 07:00)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit: 30-bed Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit with average daily census of 19


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit requiring cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience.
  • Float within skill level if census is low.
  • Work every other weekend.
  • First-time travel nurses accepted.
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions.
  • Schedule accommodations may be discussed with manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Active Illinois RN license in hand.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications (AHA or RQI acceptable). NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred.
  • Experience with telemetry and cardiac monitoring, including:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Endocrine/metabolic skills:
    • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
    • Feeding tube care and management
    • Experience with renal failure patients
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy skills:
    • Accessing ports
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Titration of vasoactive drips
  • Neurological/psychiatric skills:
    • Care of CVA (stroke) patients
  • Experience with total joint replacements required.
  • Respiratory skills:
    • External CPAP/BiPAP
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
    • Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care
  • Professional skills:
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Community hospital experience preferred.

Work Environment & Facility Details

  • Critical Access hospital with 25 staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Cerner.
  • Parking permit required but no cost.
  • Scrub color: Grey.

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • No on-call required.
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions without restrictions.
  • Fit mask test required prior to start (3M 1860 or 1870 series masks accepted).
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or exemption)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or exemption)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30.
  • TB testing (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Q-gold) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray required if positive test.
  • Illinois-specific state background and registry checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Competency exam required prior to start.
  • Badge photo required before start.
  • Completion of orientation safety manual and facility-specific modules required before or on first day of orientation.
  • References: Two professional references required.

Schedule & Hours

  • 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each).
  • Will work every other weekend.
  • Time off requests and block scheduling must be discussed with manager.

Notes

  • Candidate must have MS/Telemetry experience.
  • Must have required cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills.
  • Must be able to float within scope of practice as needed.
  • No radius restrictions for local candidates.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome.
