Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Night shifts, primarily 3 shifts of 12 hours each (1900 - 0730)
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required
  • Shifts may also include 8-hour shifts as needed

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience with both adult and pediatric populations within the last 3 years

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Wisconsin RN license or Compact RN license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Ability to pass facility-specific Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form completion (state-mandated)
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Physical exam (to meet agency standard)
  • Immunization and health document compliance including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
    • Other vaccines or declinations as required by department or facility

Orientation and Facility Specific Requirements

  • Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing policies
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical)
  • Completion of facility-specific communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Completion of required telemetry study guides and exams through the agency’s LMS platform
  • Remediation process available for telemetry exam failures with limited attempts

Additional Notes

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard)
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • TNCC certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
