ICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Odessa, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:30 - 7:00)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Start date preferred within the next 3-5 weeks
- Required to float to Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units if ICU census is low (patient ratios 5-6:1)
Required Certifications & Training
- ACLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- BLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- TNCC or TCAR (Trauma Nursing Core Course or equivalent)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required annually for ICU, MS, and MS/Tele nurses)
- EKG course completion (can be provided if needed)
- 6 hours total of Stroke education (can be provided if needed)
- Pass/Fail Testing for EKG and Medication (Pharmacology exam onsite at orientation; 3 attempts allowed)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum of 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 1 year; chest X-ray within 2 years if positive)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct-April); mask required if declined until March 31
- COVID initial series or facility-specific declination (annual boosters not required)
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; plan for completion within 72 hours of signing contract
- Fit mask test within 1 year (N-95 Kimberly Clark Technol or Halyard Orange Duckbill masks accepted; PAPR not accepted)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific documents including:
- Notice of Employment
- Standards of Conduct and Behavior
- Dress Code Policy Acknowledgement
- Agency Checklist (must list "Traveler-RN" as title)
- COVID declination if applicable
- HIPAA and Fair Warning Quiz Modules (complete within 72 hours of signing)
- Orientation and Safety Training Modules (certificate required within 72 hours)
- Annual TB Questionnaire (updated if gap >30 days)
- Completion of various compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start
Additional Notes
- Orientation and safety training modules are time sensitive and must be completed promptly
- Pharmacology competency exam must meet or exceed passing score
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Pro RT environment, working with the unit staff and department staff. Charting is easy cerner. If you know your job you will be fine.
Cons
Scheduling is very difficult for travelers. Full time is 3&4, weekends are alternating Saturday and Sunday. Bureaucracy issues. Housing is difficult to find and expensive due to oil city. In the NICU you are on your own not many staff or team leads crossed trained. There is some disorganization.
