Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
• Average daily census: 24 patients
• Patient population: Adult patients
• Unit type: Progressive Care Unit (Intermediate Care, stepdown)
• Float required within unit
• Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
• Medication system: Omnicell
• Documentation system: EPIC
• Communication method: SBAR
• Patient diagnoses: COVID and non-COVID multisystem intermediate care patients
• Special procedures: Experience with Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization required (lack of this experience will label candidate as a screen)
• Orientation: General orientation plus 1 shadow shift on unit
• Scrub color: Ceil Blue (scrubs not provided)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Georgia
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization lab experience required
• BLS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID
• Social Security Card
• Background check within 30 days of start (including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search)
• Official transcript or diploma copy
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be renewed yearly)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including Marijuana/THC)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 6 months required
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, completed series, or signed declination)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (facility-specific declination accepted)
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start during flu season (Sept 22 - Mar 31)
• COVID-19 vaccination required or approved medical/religious exemption (facility-specific forms)
• Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no selfies)
• Employment application and 2 professional references per agency guidelines

Orientation & Testing

• EPIC system testing on day 1
• Pass/fail exams during orientation (Medication, EKG, Critical Care as applicable) with two attempts allowed
• Unit-specific competency check-off required prior to start
• Mask fit testing completed at orientation

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is NOT required; first-time travelers are welcome
• MedSurg Telemetry experience alone does not meet the intermediate care experience requirement
• Fingerprinting through Georgia GCHEXS system is NOT required for RNs
• Scrubs are NOT provided; color for this unit is Ceil Blue
• Candidates must complete assigned online learning modules prior to start

This position offers an opportunity to work in a progressive care environment with adult patients requiring intermediate care skills, including cardiac cath experience. The role requires strong clinical skills, certifications, and compliance with facility-specific health and safety requirements.
