Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Location: Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours

Job Description

• Must be certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
• Schedule includes weekdays with weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed by the unit.
• May care for COVID-19 patients.
• Tobacco and fragrance-free facility environment.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
• Certification by NBSTSA as a CST or CSFA required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start; updated annually.
• Pennsylvania State Police PATCH search required within 1 year of start; must be finalized prior to start (cannot start with results pending).
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search required within 5 years; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days.
• Pennsylvania FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days. Fingerprints must be completed in Pennsylvania.
• Employment eligibility verification (I9), E-Verify, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
• Education verification of highest degree/diploma/transcripts required.
• Two professional references required within 3 years of start.
• Most recent resume/application required.
• Skills checklist required annually.

Certifications and Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit/job description.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all RNs except OR and Home Health (refer to unit/job description for applicability).
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and other competency exams as applicable by specialty.

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam required within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT.
• N95 fit test required within 12 months of start and updated annually (specific mask types mandated).
• Immunizations/vaccinations required with documentation including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days (PPD not accepted)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 doses or positive titer required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or full vaccine series (3 doses) required or signed declination
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or valid medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccine or valid medical/religious exemption/declination accepted
• Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen required within 1 year of start (specific to agency; facility does not require).
• Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually.

• Candidates will undergo a clinical pre-screen to determine fit before manager interview.

• Clear, professional passport-style photo required for badge.
• Learning Management System (LMS) modules and new hire orientation required; must be completed on PC/laptop prior to start.
