Registered Nurse – Telemetry
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Heart & Vascular Unit (49-bed specialty medical/surgical unit)
- Fast-paced cardiovascular care including stable heart and lung transplants, and Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs)
- Patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
- Drip infusions required on all floors
- EPIC charting experience required
- Floating required frequently to meet staffing needs, including to multiple units and potentially a sister campus
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Schedule
- Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Hours per week: 36
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted if submitted with application; must be in hand before start)
- Minimum 2 years RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
- First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA standards)
- NIH Stroke Certification and CPI preferred
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Additional Requirements & Information
- Must be willing and able to float within scope to various units as needed
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking option
- Up to two weeks of RTO (request time off) permitted; additional requests at manager discretion
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check, drug screening, and multiple health document verifications required (including immunizations, TB testing, physical exam, mask fit test, and drug screen)
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; COVID vaccine preferred with exemptions accepted
- Two professional references from work within the past 2 years required
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams required
- Facility is a teaching hospital with complex patient population and advanced care
Important Notes
- RTO blackout dates due to College World Series: June 11–22, 2026
- Travelers are first to float and must be prepared for frequent floating
- Pending license submissions will result in booking start dates approximately six weeks out if license is not in hand
- Facility enforces strict background checks including state and federal registries
- Eye exam required only if working in the OR (not applicable here)
