ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each, night shift 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Shift Details: Every third weekend required (Friday - Saturday)

Job Description

Work primarily in Medical ICU and Surgical ICU units.
Float to Emergency Department for boarders as needed.
Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients.
Charting system: Epic experience required.
Position requires passing two pass/fail exams at orientation: a medication exam and a telemetry exam (one attempt allowed for each; failure results in immediate contract cancellation). Study materials provided before orientation.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

Valid government-issued ID.
Massachusetts Statewide iCORI Release (background check authorization).
7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, national criminal search, and other federal checks. Annual update required for direct hires.
Education verification of highest completed education (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable).
Required health documents within specified timeframes:
- Physical exam within 12 months, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Immunizations or declinations for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, Flu, COVID-19, and others as applicable. Declinations may not be accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, or NICU areas.
- Drug testing within 30 days of start.
References: 2 references within 3 years of start date.
Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually.

Certifications and Competencies

Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs.
Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 6 months of start and annually thereafter for RNs in acute care, critical care, ED, cath lab, PACU. Failure to pass the onsite EKG exam results in immediate cancellation.
Pass/fail Telemetry exam required for RNs working in telemetry-monitored units (including Labor & Delivery). Not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, or NICU.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required or completed onsite.

Additional Notes

This is a night shift ICU RN role with a 1:2 patient ratio.
Telemetry knowledge and passing the telemetry exam are mandatory due to the nature of the unit.
The contract requires strict compliance with all documentation and exam requirements; failure to meet these results in immediate contract cancellation.
