Registered Nurse - Long-Term Care (Travel/Contract)

Location: Vestal, New York
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week, every other weekend required (40 hours/week)
  • Start Dates: Every 2 weeks (due to orientation schedule)
  • Patient Population: Alzheimer's & Dementia patients
  • Facility Size: 300 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:18-20
  • Schedule Flexibility: Shift cannot be changed once offered; time off requests (RTO) only approved at time of submission, no changes allowed after offer
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required upon center request
  • Locals Accepted: Yes

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Long Term Care experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience in a Long Term Care setting

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Perform medication passes accurately and safely
  • Monitor and report changes in resident condition
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation
  • Provide nursing care according to facility policies
  • Supervise CNAs on assigned units

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year location history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (updated annually)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (exceptions apply for positive history or BCG vaccine)
  • Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (boosters if titers low)
  • Flu vaccination or declination required annually; mask required if declined during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
  • Pneumonia vaccination proof or declination required
  • Drug test (9-panel) required for direct hires within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Harassment prevention training certificate required for subcontractors
  • Completion of facility-specific Relias training modules prior to start (must pass medication administration exam with 90% or higher; unlimited retakes allowed)
  • Two professional references required (within 2 years of start)
  • Resume/application required
  • Government-issued photo ID (front copy) required

Additional Information

  • Attire: Any solid color scrubs and closed-toe shoes
  • Charting system: PCC (Point Click Care) - no submission required
  • Parking: Free
  • Mileage reimbursement: None
  • No floating between units required
  • Call-outs must be given with more than 24 hours’ notice

Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Compliance process takes approximately 1.5 to 2 weeks
  • Modules must be started promptly and completed no later than 3 days before assignment start date
  • Additional modules may be assigned after start date and must be completed by assigned due dates

This position offers an opportunity to work in a state-run long-term care center with a focus on skilled nursing, memory care, rehabilitation therapies, and wound care.
