Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN L&D)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years with high-risk (level 3) OB experience
  • Required Skills: Heparin drip experience
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Floating: Mandatory floating within scope as needed by the facility
  • Locals accepted and preferred within a 75-mile radius

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Intermediate
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification

Preferred Certification:

  • AWHONN Advanced

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with high-risk patients
  • Heparin drip experience
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • AWHONN Intermediate
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) experience
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification

Scheduling and Time Off

  • No block scheduling
  • Request Time Off (RTO) allowed up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive days
  • No RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) required
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry verification not required for RNs
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD, updated annually
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if history positive
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella (boosters if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
  • Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months of start)
  • Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)
  • PromisePoint EMR training modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 2 hours)

Additional Notes

  • This is a mandatory float facility; all staff must float as needed within their scope
  • No call requirements
  • Mileage reimbursement available for locals within 75 miles (locals preferred)
  • No pending licenses accepted
