Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• No call required; rotating weekends
• Floating between units required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:7 when floated
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional overtime shifts may be available and flexed as needed
• Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• State License 1 Verification
• NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)

Orientation

• General orientation begins on Sundays with online computer-based learning (CBLs)
• Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable time

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for TN license holders or workers
• Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days of start
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Respirator medical evaluation and fit testing completed onsite
• Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents including dress code, smoking policy, and exposure statements
• Candidates should be prepared for possible floating and flexible scheduling based on census needs
• Participation in clinical education for nursing students is part of the role

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable with telemetry and floating, and who are open to supporting nursing education efforts. Prior travel experience is not required.
