Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri

Job Description

  • Pediatric Behavioral Health and Medical-Surgical RN role
  • Open to 3x12 or 4x12 shifts
  • Med Surg experience required
  • Experience needed in behavioral/psychiatric nursing and med surg; pediatrics preferred
  • Patient ratios approximately 1:3 or 1:4, similar to other inpatient units

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum of one year of Behavioral Health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Med Surg and Telemetry nursing experience
  • One year or more of total travel nursing experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
  • Background checks including county, statewide, and sex offender searches for Missouri and Kansas counties
  • E-Verify proof or attestation required
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as per facility policy
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B documentation or titers
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • Color blindness testing required
  • Medication calculation/dosage competency test during orientation (100% pass required)
  • Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification NOT accepted for Behavioral Health RNs (other behavioral health techs require CPI)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and pass/fail testing required for RNs
  • References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start

Additional Notes

  • Patient care involves pediatric behavioral health and medical-surgical nursing
  • Must be able to work in a pediatric inpatient setting with behavioral health focus
  • Prior travel experience is mandatory for this role
  • Contract length is approximately 13 weeks

This position is ideal for experienced Behavioral Health RNs with med surg and pediatric experience who have completed at least one prior travel contract and hold the appropriate state licenses and certifications.
