Job Summary: Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Oncology
- Primary Unit: Outpatient Pediatric Clinic (Valerie Fund)
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Pediatric Oncology and Hematology)
- Preferred Experience: Outpatient experience highly preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Required Skills and Certifications
- Pediatric Chemotherapy Certification (APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Course)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Experience with pediatric chemotherapy administration and accessing ports
- IV Pumps experience required
- Familiarity with Cerner charting system
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey
- Pediatric Chemotherapy Certification as noted above
- Current BLS and PALS certifications
- Ability to access ports and administer pediatric chemotherapy
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric oncology/hematology nursing experience
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to complete and submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation with application
- Scrub color: Blue
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions list (New Jersey) within 30 days of start
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exams and pass/fail testing as required
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance if job tasks require respirator use
- Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety training, including annual education sign-off
- Vendor medical clearance form if history of positive TB
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not specifically required for this role but may be relevant if rotating)
Notes
- Certificates expiring within a month of start will require renewal confirmation
- RWJBarnabas Health is considered one employer; documentation within 30 days of prior RWJ assignment may be accepted for site transfers with less than 30-day gaps
- Candidates must bring physical and respiratory clearance documents on the first day for onsite fit testing
- Facility requires adherence to specific policies including floating policy and annual education requirements
