Pre-Op and PACU/Recovery Unit
Role
- Registered Nurse in the Pre-Op and PACU/Recovery Unit
- Travel/Contract assignment in Rancho Mirage, California
- 3x12 schedule, Friday through Sunday night shift
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- PACU - Post Anesthesia Care (2 years of experience)
- PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- ED - Emergency Department experience
- ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience
- Preoperative experience
- Experience with Epic
- Dysrhythmia recognition and management
- Starting IVs
- Airway assessment
- Obtain operative/procedural consent
- Straight urinary catheterization female and male
- Pain assessment and management

- Previous charge experience
Unit Details
- Nurses are trained to work in a combined Pre-op and PACU unit
- RN will primarily work in either Pre-op or PACU due to scheduling
- Travelers are first to float
- Float scope includes Pre-Op and Post-Op within Surgical Services, with rare float to outpatient ortho surgery or same day surgery center
- Call is required: 2–3 shifts per month with 30-minute callback
- 12 rooms, 24 beds
- Average daily census: 35–50
- Patient age groups include pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Limited pediatrics; patient population is mostly 30s–100s
- Unit is busy, with many add-on cases
- Unit is staffed 24/7
- Unit is supported with techs
Clinical Experience / Skills Mentioned
- ICU, open hearts, and neurosurgery patients recover in ICU unless ICU is on hold
- Surgical services include Bariatrics, Cardio Thoracic, General, GYN, GYN-Onc, Neuro, Spine, Ortho, Plastics, Podiatry, Urology, Vascular, and Endovascular
- May cover IRL, EP, Cath, plum, and CT/MRI patients if off hours or recovery area is full
