Job Description

• Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients during assigned shifts using the nursing process and current nursing practices.
• Perform initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement, evaluate, and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Provide post-operative care for complex surgical patients.
• Monitor and care for patients with new tracheostomies.
• Manage wounds requiring wound vac therapy and other complex wound care.
• Assess, manage, and educate patients and families on new ostomies.
• Collaborate with surgical and oral maxillofacial surgery residency teams.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
