CVICU Registered Nurse

Overview

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas
• CVICU (2 years of experience)
• CVICU experience within the last year
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with Epic

Experience Preferences

• 3+ years of experience
• Prior travel experience
• Experience working in a very busy hospital

Unit Details

• High-acuity CVICU with 8A and 8B beds
• Typical patient ratios are 1:2, with occasional 1:1
• Common patient populations include heart and lung transplants, LVAD, ACB, and valve surgery patients
• Vasoactive drips are used for cardiac patients
• Intensivist model
• Respiratory therapy is assigned to the unit
• Hardwire monitoring is used
• Charge RN usually has patients
• One PCA on the floor

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Scheduled based on unit needs
• 6 weekend shifts in 6 weeks
• Must be willing to work any holidays
• No call or standby requirement
• First to float out depending on competency
• 2–3 shifts of orientation with preceptors

Additional Notes

• CRRT is preferred, but training is available
• Teal scrubs required
• Daily parking is available at additional cost
