Overview

• Role: Float Pool RN
• Location: Kankakee, Illinois
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Department: Float Pool | RN

Required Qualifications

• RN license in hand in Illinois
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• EPIC experience
• Driver’s license
• 2+ years of experience
• No first-time traveler for float pool

Preferred Qualifications

• Travel experience
• NIHSS
• Prior float experience

Unit Details

• Float pool includes: 5 MedSurg, 5 Med Peds, Tele IMCU, REHAB, and Behavioral Health (SR/adolescent/Adult)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6; IMCU 1:5
• CNAs are available; ratio 1:10
• Charge nurse/team lead coverage varies by shift
• Tele is remote tele on Med/Tele; ICU handles its own tele strips
• Scrub color: Caribbean blue

Scheduling

• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
• Call is not usually required
• First schedule is placed where needed
• Staff call in before shift for assignment, no more than 1 hour before shift

Clinical Notes

• Common diagnoses include acute surgical, ortho/neuro, med surg, detox, hospice, med peds, pediatric respiratory illness, post-surgical tele, CHF, chest pain, radial cath procedures, chest tubes, renal patients, rehab, and behavioral health
• RNs are not required to titrate drips except heparin per protocol
• IMCU may titrate amio, cardizem, dobutamine, lasix, and insulin via glucomander
• RT manages vents; BIPAP/CPAP is used on med/tele only if home setting, and continuous BIPAP goes to IMCU/ICU
• Nurses may occasionally assist RT with nebulizer treatments
