10E Stepdown/Medsurg RN

Overview

Registered Nurse role in a 29-bed Stepdown/MedSurg unit
The unit is a flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients
The unit is currently under construction, with all beds planned to be step-down equipped in first quarter 2026

Required Qualifications

BLS (AHA)
Epic experience
Ability to handle either a 6-patient med-surg assignment or a 3-patient stepdown assignment

Preferred

New and experienced nurses are both considered

Unit Details

Nurse-to-patient ratios: 3:1 for stepdown, 6:1 for floor
Common drips include heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
Respiratory support on the unit includes CPAP and BiPAP on floor and stepdown, with HiFlow and vents in stepdown
Central monitoring is available on the unit, and RNs are not expected to read their own strips
Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7
Nurse aides are present on the unit
Floating is first to other floor/stepdown units
No call or standby requirement

Schedule

12-hour night shifts
Weekend night shift schedule options include Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday
Agency RN positions are posted as weekend positions
Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
Block scheduling is not guaranteed

Dress Code

Any combination of royal blue and white
