Job Details
- Specialty: NICU RN (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum contract length)
- Unit: NICU - Level 4
- Unit Size: 71 beds (including 17 stepdown beds)
- Hospital Size: Large tertiary care center with 607 beds
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma center
- EMR System: Cerner
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 3 out of 6 major holidays
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:2 in ICU, 1:3 in Level 2
- Charge Nurse Role: Yes, charge nurse duties with no patient assignment; also serves as a high-risk RN resource
- Nurse Aides: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
- Orientation: 2-3 days floor-specific orientation
- Floating: May float to Mother-Baby or Labor Care (babies only)
- Patient Types: Premature infants, cardiac defects, genetic disorders, surgical patients, ECMO, and therapeutic cooling
- Room Setup: 4 private rooms
- Respiratory Therapy: RT manages ventilators, available 24/7
- Pharmacy: NICU pharmacy available during the day
- In-House Coverage: Neonatologist and midlevels available 24/7
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years NICU experience required
- Level of Experience: Level 4 experience required (will consider busy Level 3)
- Core Experience: 2 years of core specialty experience required
- Trauma & Teaching Experience: Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Cardiac STABLE Plus certification
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not explicitly required for NICU; prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU only
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; max 2 attempts; required for ICU and related units
- SIMs Lab: Pass/fail skills lab on Day 1 for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except NICU and ED have modified requirements). Competency in sterile technique is critical.
- Appearance Policy: No facial piercings; only natural hair colors allowed
- Vehicle: Travel teams must have their own vehicles
- Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle to facility; night shift parking in garage
- Orientation: Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holidays)
- Work Restrictions: Cannot work two contracts simultaneously; must be off CommonSpirit as permanent staff for 12 months before travel assignment eligibility
- Teaching Hospital: Nursing students may be present
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Telemetry: Phillips system used
