Registered Nurse (RN) – Adult ICU Pods
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking experienced RNs for Adult ICU Pods covering SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU units. This is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation and a large tertiary care facility environment. The unit consists of 3 ICU pods with approximately 40 beds each (120 beds total).
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience required.
- Must have experience working in a 600+ bed teaching hospital.
- Level 1 Trauma experience required.
- Prior travel experience is required for some specialties (ED, Neuro ICU), but not explicitly stated for this ICU role.
- Must be competent in sterile technique and common ICU nursing skills (e.g., Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes).
- Must pass a Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts). Failure results in a 6-month disqualification in the region.
- Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab (skills include Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes, lifts, restraints, wound care).
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
- Must be able to titrate common drips and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently.
- Must be willing to float across all ICU areas and potentially to a secondary campus.
- Must be able to work 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks and participate in holiday rotations.
Unit Details & Patient Population
MICU
- Common diagnoses: Sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, RotaProne therapy, heat stroke, overdoses (most intubated).
- Bedside procedures: Bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, hemodialysis catheter placements.
SICU
- Common diagnoses: Post-op vented patients, lung/liver/kidney transplant patients, severe back surgeries, Whipple procedures.
- Bedside procedures: Bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, hemodialysis catheter placements.
TICU (Trauma ICU)
- Common diagnoses: Trauma patients including MVAs, gunshot wounds, closed head injuries, orthopedic trauma.
- Night shifts are 12 hours; weekend and holiday coverage required.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm), self-scheduling with scheduler oversight to balance the schedule.
- Navy scrub color dress code.
- Intensivist coverage 24/7.
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 with advanced ventilator equipment (Cervo I, Jets, Oscillators).
- Nurses required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips.
- Parking provided with shuttle service; travel teams must have their own vehicles.
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- Candidates cannot hold concurrent contracts with other employers while on assignment.
- Must complete onboarding paperwork by specified deadlines or start date will be delayed.
- Orientation includes 2 shifts on the floor.
- This is a teaching hospital; nurses may be expected to work with nursing students.
