Registered Nurse - MS Tele Oncology

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Oncology Acute Telemetry (Tower 6)
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm)
Hours per Week: 36
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Weekend Requirement: At least 1 weekend per month
Holiday Requirement: Work into rotation
Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
Floating: May float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units

Job Description

• Care for primarily oncology patients (85%) and telemetry medical-surgical patients (15%)
• Patient population includes surgical, medical, and oncology cases
• Telemetry monitoring using Phillips system; RN responsible for EKG interpretation
• Ventilator support includes BiPAP and CPAP
• Charge nurse role available with light patient assignment; also serves as oncology resource RN
• Support staff includes 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days and nights
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support available
• IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
• No hospitalist or intensivist in-house

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona
• Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in oncology specialty
• Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Chemotherapy certification is a plus
• Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
• Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required (SIMs Lab pass/fail; exceptions apply for certain units)
• Must be competent in sterile field maintenance
• Natural hair color only; no facial piercings allowed
• Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
• Candidates cannot hold concurrent contracts with other employers in the region
• Must have been off permanent staff in the region for at least 12 months to qualify for travel assignment

• Parking assigned with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage

• 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate submissions
