Travel RN Opportunity - Orthopedics & Spine Specialty

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Specialty: Orthopedics & Spine
  • Unit Size: 36 beds (all private rooms)
  • Staff: Approximately 75 total
  • Shifts:
    • Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs, 1 Unit Clerk
    • Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs
  • Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per nurse
  • Equipment: Traction, external fixators, halos, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse oximetry, remote telemetry monitoring
  • EMR System: Meditech

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced med/surg acuity unit specializing in orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions (including stroke and head injuries), and trauma
  • Busy Level 2 trauma center with two freestanding Emergency Departments feeding into the unit
  • Staff use iPhone 7 devices with a secure communication app (Mobile Heartbeat) to enhance team communication and patient privacy
  • Unit recently expanded from 26 to 36 beds due to increased patient volume

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift Times:
    • Day: 06:45 AM – 07:15 PM
    • Night: 06:45 PM – 07:15 AM
  • Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend (sometimes every other weekend if on leave of absence)
  • Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs required

Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty (acute care hospital experience on med/surg or telemetry units required)
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Valid Kansas RN License
    • BLS Certification
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Preferred Qualifications

  • NIH Certification (preferred but not required)
