Travel RN Opportunity – Pediatric CICU/CVICU

Location: Dallas, Texas
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Employment Type: Travel


Unit Information

  • Pediatric ICU and Step Down Unit (Children’s Tower, 3rd floor)
  • 27 beds, 90 staff members
  • Acuity adaptive model caring for ICU and step down level patients
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2 or 1:1, sometimes 1:3
  • Equipment includes IV pumps (Medfusion, Baxter), Hillrom beds, HARD cribs and cribettes, GE radiant warmers, Somanetics NIRS machines, Servo U vents
  • EMR system: Meditech

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years PICU experience as a staff nurse
  • At least 1 year Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse (higher requirement between 1 and 2 years is 2 years preferred)
  • Experience caring for patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) and post-operative management of CHD patients
  • Experience managing arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines
  • Completion of 3-4 contracts in dedicated pediatric CICU preferred

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience
  • At least 1 year experience with neonatal cardiac patients (pre-op and post-op management)
  • 2+ years pediatric cardiac experience in step down or cardiology floor

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Central line and arterial line placement
  • Conscious sedation
  • Intubation/extubation
  • Post-op recovery for general and cardiac procedures
  • Sternal closures
  • Codes
  • ECMO cannulation and decannulation
  • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
  • Manual Pacing

Certifications Required

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Work Schedule & Guidelines

  • 48 hours guaranteed per week
  • Rotating weekends: Day shift on Saturday and Sunday, night shift on Friday and Saturday
  • No call required
  • Scrub color: Royal blue
