Lead Clinical Nurse – Cardio/Vascular Surgery
Location: San Diego, California
Employment Type: Travel Nursing (Clinical - Nursing - Travel)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8 hours/day (06:30 AM – 03:00 PM), 40 hours/week
Job Summary
Provide leadership and coordination of shift operations in the cardiovascular surgery clinical area, ensuring achievement of patient and operational outcomes, staff development, and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily shift operations, collaborating with physicians and other departments to resolve operational issues.
- Achieve patient outcomes by demonstrating clinical competence and participating in quality improvement activities.
- Identify clinical learning needs and ensure staff achieve required competencies through orientation and mentoring.
- Manage human resources including performance reviews, employee file maintenance, and staff leadership development.
- Oversee productivity metrics, monitor staffing mix, and contribute to cost-effective resource management.
- Facilitate safety management including Workman’s Compensation reporting and maintaining staff/patient safety standards.
- Implement and monitor compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including circulating role, with at least some experience within the last year
- Clinical competence in cardiovascular and vascular surgery nursing
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Professionals
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in vascular surgery procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience in clinical nursing.
- Experience assessing and improving staff competencies.
- Scrub experience in cardiovascular surgery.
- Strong physician relations skills.
- Experience liaising with sterile processing teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
