    Description

    Lead Clinical Nurse – Cardio/Vascular Surgery

    Location: San Diego, California
    Employment Type: Travel Nursing (Clinical - Nursing - Travel)
    Contract Length: 13 weeks
    Shift: 8 hours/day (06:30 AM – 03:00 PM), 40 hours/week


    Job Summary

    Provide leadership and coordination of shift operations in the cardiovascular surgery clinical area, ensuring achievement of patient and operational outcomes, staff development, and safety compliance.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and coordinate daily shift operations, collaborating with physicians and other departments to resolve operational issues.
    • Achieve patient outcomes by demonstrating clinical competence and participating in quality improvement activities.
    • Identify clinical learning needs and ensure staff achieve required competencies through orientation and mentoring.
    • Manage human resources including performance reviews, employee file maintenance, and staff leadership development.
    • Oversee productivity metrics, monitor staffing mix, and contribute to cost-effective resource management.
    • Facilitate safety management including Workman’s Compensation reporting and maintaining staff/patient safety standards.
    • Implement and monitor compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
    • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including circulating role, with at least some experience within the last year
    • Clinical competence in cardiovascular and vascular surgery nursing
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Professionals
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • Experience in vascular surgery procedures

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Leadership experience in clinical nursing.
    • Experience assessing and improving staff competencies.
    • Scrub experience in cardiovascular surgery.
    • Strong physician relations skills.
    • Experience liaising with sterile processing teams.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
