Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient Surgery/Day Surgery

Location: Ithaca, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)

Job Description

• Role involves Preoperative (Preop) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing.
• On-call requirement: Approximately 3-4 weeknight calls plus one 24-hour weekend call within an 8-week period.

  • Weeknight call hours: 9 PM – 7 AM
  • Weekend call hours: 7 AM – 7 AM
• Shift options include:

  • 6 AM – 6 PM
  • 7 AM – 7 PM
  • 8 AM – 8 PM
  • 9 AM – 9 PM

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Day Surgery experience, including experience within the last year
• Outpatient Surgery experience
• BLS (American Heart Association) – must remain valid throughout assignment
• ACLS (American Heart Association) – must remain valid throughout assignment
• PALS (American Heart Association) – must remain valid throughout assignment

Health and Safety Requirements

• Immunizations and Testing:

  • MMR: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; if negative/equivocal, vaccination series must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; if negative/equivocal, vaccination series must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or specific declination form required.
  • TB Test: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:

    • Two skin PPDs (one within 12 months, one within 3 months) or
    • One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months
    • For past positive TB tests, chest X-ray within 12 months may be required.
  • Tdap: Preferred but not required; if no record, a declination form is needed.
• Fit Test: Must be completed prior to start and within the last 12 months; annual requirement. On-site fit testing available if needed.
• Physical/Health Statement: Must be from within the last 12 months, include physician credentials, clinic location, phone number, height, weight, vitals, Snellen eye chart, and a statement of clearance with no restrictions.
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Optional; proof of vaccine or agency declination can be uploaded.

Professional Requirements

• Valid, unexpired U.S. driver’s license or state ID.
• Background check completed within 30 days of start, including:

  • SSN Address Trace report covering all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
  • FACIS 3 Check
  • County criminal searches for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
  • National criminal check
• Drug screen completed within 30 days of start; 9+ panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine, methadone, methaqualone, propoxyphene, nitrites.
• Two professional references required:

  • One supervisor reference from employment within the last 12 months
  • One supervisor or peer reference from employment within the last 3 years
• Employment verification of most recent employer required (agency employment counts as one employer).
• Signed and dated job description required.
• Color headshot photo (straightforward, solid background, no filters or sunglasses, JPEG format).
• Completion of required professional documents and acknowledgments including:

  • Code of Conduct
  • Sexual Harassment Acknowledgement
  • Confirmation of Assignment Form
  • Self Study Packet Documentation and Quiz
  • Parking Registration Form
• Completion of specific forms and questionnaires as required (e.g., TB Questionnaire, Epic Questionnaire).
