Job Opportunity: RN Psych (Adult Psychiatric Nurse)

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Name: Epstein 4 – Adult Psych
• Bed Count: 30 beds
• Patient Population: Adults aged 18-65 years
• Patient Conditions: Anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, dual diagnosis (including detox), and some medically acute patients (IVs, CPAPs, wound care, diabetic care)
• Clinician to Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 7-8 patients
• EMR System: EPIC

Work Schedule

• Rotating shifts including Days, Evenings, and Nights (7a-7p, 11a-11p, 7p-7a)
• Night shifts do not rotate
• Typically 2-3 shifts per time block, rotation every 4 weeks
• Floating required

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 2 years inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience
• Proficient with automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell)
• Skilled in electronic health records documentation (preferably EPIC)
• Knowledgeable in psychotropic medications and their side effects
• Able to assume charge nurse responsibilities
• Competent in admissions and discharges
• Skilled in IV pump use
• Competent in diabetic patient care

Certifications & Licenses Required

• Active Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• AHA BLS Certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military accepted)
• Certification in De-escalation
• Knowledge of Massachusetts Department of Mental Health regulations, including restraint and seclusion, legal statuses, guardianship, healthcare proxy, and court-ordered medication

Additional Training Offered

• AVADE training (on-site)
• Lead EKG training

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

• Professional license verification (primary source, within 30 days of start)
• Fit test for N95 respirator (within 365 days, updated annually)
• Medication exam (80% passing within 365 days)
• Immunizations: MMR, Influenza (required during flu season), TB test (within 3 months), Hepatitis B (strongly preferred), Tdap (preferred)
• Health statement from physician (within 365 days)
• Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, national sex offender registry, exclusion checks, and SSN trace
• References: 2 recent, including at least 1 supervisor or above
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required
• Respirator medical clearance attestation (if fit test required)
• Education verification (highest level achieved)

This position is ideal for experienced adult psychiatric RNs comfortable with rotating shifts and working in a diverse, acute psychiatric setting.
