Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PACU) - Vermont, Burlington

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU)

Job Description

  • Assignment duration: up to 16 weeks
  • Schedule: No weekends regularly; variable day/evening shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours
  • Float weekends and call required
  • Holidays and weekends depend on schedule needs and staff picks
  • Work environment: Large teaching hospital
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Epic experience within the past 2 years required (non-negotiable)

Requirements

  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA approved, current)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience
    • Minimum 2 years of experience specifically in PACU
    • Must have critical care PACU skills, including:
      • High acuity critical care PACU experience
      • Experience with critical care arterial lines, multiple titrating drips, cardiac monitoring, etc.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
  • Large teaching hospital experience required

Orientation & Scheduling

  • Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays (next available orientation date provided by employer)
  • No block schedules allowed
  • Monday to Sunday coverage

Transportation

  • Public transportation is NOT accessible in this area
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended
  • Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires during November through April

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete and detailed work history including bed count, EMR, and facility type
  • Explanation required for any employment gaps over 90 days
  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification as required
  • National tech certification verification within 30 days of assignment start
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as required
  • Annual color blind testing
  • Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent and search
  • COVID-19 vaccination attestation and questionnaire (time sensitive)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 fit test required prior to assignment and updated annually
  • Immunizations required or documented: Tdap, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Flu seasonal vaccination or exemption (medical/religious only, no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within past 12 months, updated annually
  • Drug testing as required (varies by state)
  • References: 2 professional references from assignments within last 3 years
  • Skills checklist within 12 months
  • Work history verification for last 2 years of clinical work

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background, no logos or hats)
  • Auto insurance required if using personal vehicle for work (Home Health and Hospice specialties)
  • Review of dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
  • Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Completion of emergency contact form and other facility-specific forms
  • Compliance with COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work if required

This position is ideal for experienced PACU Registered Nurses with strong critical care skills, recent Epic EMR experience, and the ability to work flexible shifts in a large teaching hospital setting. Reliable transportation and thorough compliance with documentation and immunization requirements are essential.
