Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
• Locals Accepted: Yes, radius rule applies for LPNs

Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York Single State LPN license required (NY is not Compact)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications may be required as per unit description
• State License and NURSYS verifications required within 30 days of start

Experience Requirements

• Must have acute care experience within the last 2 years
• Must be able to take own patient assignment with RN support
• No prior travel experience required (first-time travelers accepted)

Clinical Skills Required

• Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring
• Isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling
• Oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• Feeding tube management
• Telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG
• Medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops)
• IV therapy with pumps
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains)
• Bathing and mouth care
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female)
• Clean catch urine collection
• Communication of status changes to RN/MD
• Experience in MS/Telemetry care setting

Unit Details

• Patient Population: Medical patients with COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, social issues
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio (Days): 1:5-6
• Scrub Color: Navy blue and white combinations

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• References, employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required
• New York state-specific checks including Nurse Aide Registry, criminal background fingerprinting (if applicable), disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list

Additional Notes

• The client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without charges
• Requests for time off or special scheduling must be submitted upon application
• Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
