Travel Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Omaha, Nebraska

Job Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
• Location: Omaha, Nebraska
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU), 20-bed specialty ICU for cardiovascular patients including heart/lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, and ECMO patients.
• Shift Options: 36 or 48-hour shifts available
• Patient Ratios: 1:2-3 (days and nights)
• Floating: Frequent floating required within scope to various units including Bellevue campus.

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital (higher experience requirement confirmed)
• Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred
• Skills:

  • Experience with drips required on all floors
  • EPIC charting experience required
• Other:

  • Must be nicotine-free (100% nicotine-free facility)
  • Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
  • Must wear facility-specific scrubs (Steele gray with logo)

Work Schedule

• Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period
• Weekend Days: Saturday and Sunday
• Weekend Nights: Friday night and Saturday night
• RTO (Request Time Off): Up to 2 weeks allowed; additional requests at manager discretion
• Blackout Dates: 6/11/26 - 6/22/26 (due to College World Series)

Facility Environment

• High acuity specialty ICU with complex cardiovascular patients
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
• Teaching hospital affiliated with a major university medical center

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start (includes extensive checks and must be updated annually)
• SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter
• Education verification required
• State-specific registry checks required
• Primary source license verification required prior to start
• Annual physical exam and fit mask test required
• Immunizations and health documents required including:

  • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Drug screening within 60 days of start and annually
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption accepted)
• Annual skills checklist required
• References: 2 work references from past 2 years required

Additional Notes

• Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
• Scrubs must be facility-branded; information provided upon confirmation
• Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
• Must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs across multiple units

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs comfortable with high acuity cardiovascular patients, flexible floating assignments, and working in a fast-paced academic medical center environment.
