Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights, either 3 or 4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call: Yes, as needed (low census)
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet unit/facility needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Rapid Response experience and skills
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Insulin administration skills
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
  • No local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • During hurricane season (June-November), staff may be assigned to emergency response teams

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid driver’s license/state ID
  • Background check including 7 years of history, national and state criminal checks, sex offender registry, and international searches
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts preferred
  • Drug screening (10-panel urine test within 90 days of start)
  • Physical exam updated annually, including immunizations and titers for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Flu vaccination required during flu season (Aug-April) or medical/religious exemption accepted
  • Respirator clearance annually for patient-facing staff
  • Clinical references and recent performance evaluation required
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable

Orientation & Facility Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • Signed agreements including assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality, code of conduct, and user access
  • Compliance with facility-specific policies and safety manuals

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badge required only for specific departments (not applicable for this role)
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • Candidates with background issues may not be eligible for expedited licensure processes
  • All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date

This position offers an opportunity to work in a well-staffed medical surgical unit with supportive staffing ratios and a structured night shift schedule. Candidates should be prepared for floating duties and weekend/on-call responsibilities.
