Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in the Interventional Radiology (IR) and Cardiac Cath Lab units, supporting both areas as needed.
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring extended presence or relief duties as directed by unit management.
  • Shift hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (10-hour day shifts, 4 days per week).
  • Call schedule includes approximately two nights per week and every other weekend, covering after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Weekend on-call from close of business Friday to department opening Monday, with expectation to arrive within 30 minutes if called.
  • Flexibility required for earlier or later procedures beyond standard hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Competency in conscious sedation.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid, current driver’s license or government-issued photo ID (color copy required).
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal background check (within 90 days of start, updated annually).
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Sex Offender Search (all required within 30 days of start and updated monthly).
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed.
  • License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screenings).
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series.
    • Hepatitis B – positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, booster, or signed declination.
    • Varicella – positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster.
    • Tdap – required only for select specialties (not required here).
  • TB testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually.
  • Photo for badge: full-color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months with plain background.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit (confirm with management).
  • Must be comfortable with emergency preparedness protocols, including hurricane season readiness (June 1 – Nov 30).

  • This position requires flexibility and willingness to respond to emergency events as assigned by unit management.
  • Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
  • Candidates must be able to respond promptly when on call, including arriving onsite within 30 minutes.
