Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry)
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Unit: 42-bed Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry
Patient Ratio: 1:6 (high acuity)
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a high-acuity Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry unit.
- Manage patients requiring cardiac dysrhythmia monitoring and cardiac drips including Cardizem, Tridil, and Amiodarone.
- Block scheduling available; every other week (EOW) required.
- Use Epic EMR system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience managing dysrhythmias
- Experience managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Tridil, and Amiodarone
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Compliance & Onboarding
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
- Education verification required (official transcripts accepted if clearinghouse verification unavailable).
- NURSYS license verification required.
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results required prior to orientation (time sensitive).
Health & Safety
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and annual).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Annual fit mask test (specific approved mask models).
- Drug testing: 10-panel test within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted.
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination).
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap only required if working in Pediatrics.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted (masking required if exemption granted).
Documentation
- Driver’s license and Social Security card required on first day; names must match RN license exactly.
- Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (may extend to 18 months if necessary).
- Complete employment application/resume.
- Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (deadline: Friday before orientation).
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose rings) required within 72 hours of signing.
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Core exams I-III from Prophecy highly preferred (HIPAA attestation required).
Notes
- Facility uses Epic EMR.
- Candidate must be compliant with all documentation and credentialing requirements at least 1 week prior to start.
- Facility-specific policies and procedures must be followed strictly.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong cardiac and telemetry skills seeking a high-acuity travel assignment on a night shift schedule.
