Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily on General Medical and Surgical units caring for a diverse patient population with diagnoses including:

  • Chronic illnesses: COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end stage renal disease
  • GI issues: pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Infections: pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C-diff
  • Neurological issues: stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries
  • Mental health disorders: depression, anxiety, substance abuse
• Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
• General Medical Surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and use of EHR.
• Equipment and skills include:

  • IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes
  • Management of heparin and insulin drips, IV therapy
  • Use of Epic electronic record, Pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, telemetry monitoring

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
• Patient ratios approximately 1:5-6
• Floating to other medical units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Experience:

  • Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary nursing experience
  • At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds)
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20)
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Orientation:

  • Jump Start orientation including 1 day general hospital orientation and approximately 5 days nursing orientation with Epic training

• Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
• Floating limited to other medical units only
• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned
