Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical - Oncology)
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Surgical Oncology (Floor 4)
Patient Population:
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Oncology, including Gynecologic Oncology surgeries
- Hospice
- General Medical/Surgical with some higher acuity patients
- Common treatments include chemotherapy and pain medication drips/PCAs
Job Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
- Charge nurse present on each shift (does not take patients)
- CNAs available with a ratio of 1:8
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP and High Flow
- Telemetry techs on unit; nurses must respond appropriately to life-threatening rhythms
- Scheduling managed by leadership; night shift blocks preferred but flexibility required
- Weekend and holiday rotation required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required, with travelers floated first to similar medical-surgical units within Boise, Meridian, and Nampa campuses
- Dress code: Any scrub color allowed, no hoods
- Orientation: 2 days unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (general Med-Surg nurses)
- Oncology nurses may qualify with 1 year of oncology experience
- BLS certification required
- Preferred: Chemotherapy and/or Bone Marrow Transplant experience and certifications (required to administer chemotherapy)
- Recent experience with gynecology, orthopedics, bariatrics, post-op care preferred
- First-time travel nurses are welcome
Additional Information
- Must be able to titrate pain medication drips/PCAs; no other drip titration required
- Unit emphasizes teamwork and handles some higher acuity patients than typical Med-Surg units
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidate eligibility
- Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling and floating assignments
