Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit Type: Med/Tele RN with PCU experience
  • Number of Beds: 32
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Day shifts: 1:4-5
    • Night shifts: occasional 1:5-6
    • PCU overflow: 1:3
  • Patient Types: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (including Bipap), general surgical patients with heart history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, sepsis

Required Skills & Experience

  • Must have PCU experience and be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Telemetry/cardiac nursing experience required
  • Epic electronic health record experience preferred
  • Open to first-time travel nurses
  • RN required to titrate drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levophed)

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Dakota

Work Schedule & Orientation

  • Shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am, rotating no more than weekly
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each), Friday and Saturday of first week; independent by Sunday
  • Floating: Required to float to PCU, Med/Surg, and some ER holds/boarding as needed

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse present on both shifts, occasionally takes a light patient load
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a goal ratio of 1:10
  • Respiratory equipment on unit includes Bipap, trachs, Airvo; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents
  • Tele/Monitor techs present to assist with monitoring
  • Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
