Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location

  • Lewiston, Maine

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit and Patient Population

  • Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit
  • 24 beds with patient census ranging from 3 to 24
  • Patient population includes neonates and adults

Schedule

  • Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12-hour shifts)
  • Self-scheduling
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Weekend hours as needed
  • Call requirements apply

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) care
  • Postpartum care experience
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Certifications:
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in Labor & Delivery, LDRP, and postpartum care
  • Ability to manage a 3-couplet assignment
  • Triage of obstetrical patients
  • Use of External Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Start and maintain peripheral IVs
  • Administer antihypertensives and insulin drips
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries and recover C-sections
  • Perform APGAR scoring, newborn assessments, and baby nurse duties ("baby catcher")
  • Collect cord blood samples, perform ID/security banding, and manage radiant warmers/thermoregulation
  • Epidural anesthesia pain assessment and management
  • Postpartum care for mother and baby, including mother/baby postpartum procedures

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Level 1 Nursery
  • Circulating for C-sections

Equipment and Systems

  • Electronic Fetal Monitor (EFM)
  • IV equipment
  • Electronic Health Records: EPIC, Powerchart
  • Omnicell Medication System

Patient Ratios

  • Approximately 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio

Additional Information

  • No first-time travelers accepted
  • No float requirements
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
